I painted this at the start of spring. After months of waiting for something to shift, carnations felt like the right subject. They are one of those flowers that gets underestimated — quietly beautiful, soft, layered — and I wanted to paint them the way they actually feel when you really look at them.
This one is gentle. Not every painting needs to be loud and this one is comfortable in its softness.
